A policy is a formal statement that explains the rules and requirements for a particular practice or subject. These are put in place to assist you throughout your time here as a student at the University. Both students and staff are protected under University policy

The University of Melbourne's policies:

  • are mandatory and applicable across the University
  • ensure that the University complies with relevant legislation, national standards and community expectations
  • enable a consistent approach to management and administration and to the treatment of individuals
  • promote operational efficiency and reduce risks
  • state principles of management and operation
  • specify the individuals or positions with decision-making authority
