Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) - Section contents
QILT is a suite of national, higher education surveys endorsed by the Department of Education and Training that covers the student life cycle from commencement to employment. The QILT surveys aim to provide a consistent measurement of students’ engagement with and experience of courses across Australian institutions.
The QILT suite includes:
- The Student Experience Survey (SES)
- The Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS) and GOS-L (Longitudinal)
- The Employer Satisfaction Survey (ESS)
QILT results will be used for internal and external benchmarking purposes and will be administered independently via a third party.
The Student Experience Survey (SES)
The SES measures undergraduate student experiences linked to student support, resources, learner engagement, teaching and developmental outcomes, and is administered to commencing and final year undergraduate students.
The data collection period for the SES occurs annually, beginning in August each year.
The Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS) and GOS-L (Longitudinal)
The GOS captures the employment or further study outcomes for students following graduation, and the GOS-L aims to track these outcomes over time.
The GOS is administered three months following graduation, and the GOS-L is administered every year for a duration of three years after graduation.
The data collection period for the GOS occurs twice throughout the year – in May and November.
The Employer Satisfaction Survey (ESS)
The ESS measures employer satisfaction with graduates’ generic skills, technical skills and work readiness.
The ESS is open to employment supervisors of graduates who have taken part in the GOS. Contact with employment supervisors takes place after responses are collected from the GOS.
