About Academic Skills
We're here to help you grow and refine the skills you need to succeed at the University of Melbourne.
Realise your full potential with Academic Skills
Developing your study and communication skills (for example critical evaluation, time management and collaboration) will set you up to succeed in your next assignment, semester, further study, and your career outside of university.
Academic Skills provides a range of resources and services to help you identify which skills you might need to work on, and choose a strategy or approach that works for you.
We help you develop the skills you need to meet current academic needs (e.g. completing that assignment) and future professional needs through online resources, on-campus workshops, and one-on-one consultations with our Academic Skills Advisers or Peer Writing Mentors.
What we offer
-
Online learning modules
Develop your academic skills whenever you want, wherever you are. Deep-dive into a skill area of your choice by completing an interactive module on the University's LMS. Enrol into the Academic Skills Hub to post questions, complete quizzes and find out about new opportunities.
-
English language development
All students need to have excellent English language communication skills, and we offer a number of programs and resources to help you develop these skills throughout your degree. Complete our Diagnostic English Language Assessment (DELA) to receive a program tailored for you.
-
Workshops
Our workshops share practical tips and advice across diverse academic areas, skill requirements and disciplines. We offer workshops and lectures for all students, including undergraduates, graduate coursework students and graduate researchers.
-
One-on-one advice
Get personalised advice from an experienced Peer Mentor or Academic Skills Adviser. We conduct regular Academic Writing Drop-in sessions (from week 3 of the semester to SWOTVac, no booking required) or you can book an Individual Appointment.
