APPROXIMATE FRIENDS

In lockdown, we need unusual movements (physical and political, individual and mass) and strange sounds (vocal, ecological and machinic) to rehabilitate our senses and political imaginations. We need to risk un-learning how to exist together, in order to meet afresh where we are.

Focusing on relationships as praxis, APPROXIMATE FRIENDS are the unexpected connections made with people, non-human beings, objects and environments during a global pandemic; the kith and kin of emergency, non-biological families and networks, the artwork companions and the call and response actions that we didn’t anticipate.

Keeping company with approximate friends might involve conflict, friction or symbiotic exchange. This project is delivered by VCA Honours students with the support of Archie Barry:
