"This opportunity let me delve into the real corporate world. Beyond tech skills, I learned firsthand about how businesses operate—something textbooks can't quite capture entirely. From planning to execution, this experience taught me invaluable lessons for my future career."

Student@Work Intern - IT Web Support Intern Stream

1) What is a typical day like as an intern in your stream?

“Normally I would arrive in the morning, grab a quick coffee then either have a quick meeting with my manager to go over work to do for the day or get straight into work if I have tasks from previous days. The rest of the day is pretty standard with a normal lunch break and more work/meetings accordingly until the end of the day.

2) How has your internship supported your career and/or professional goals?

This internship gave me valuable skills in not only technically wise, but also in understanding how businesses operate, which is something that you can't really just learn in a classroom. As someone who is thinking of joining the workforce straight out of university, learning about the nuances when it comes to work in a professional setting is invaluable.

3) What have you enjoyed the most about your internship?

Although it is tempting to say the free food from left over catering, I would say just working with my co-workers and manager. Everyone was always very welcoming and it's always more motivating to work in an environment that is inclusive and enjoyable.

4) What is one skill you learned during your internship?

I would say learning how to plan out and execute ideas. I found my work to be much easier after having a whole plan on the broader ideas that it would entail, by taking a step back first, I was able to execute on these ideas better and efficiently.

5) What advice would you give other students wanting to apply for the S@W Internship Program?

Make sure to follow the applications process carefully, it's easy to miss a step and you don't want silly mistakes getting your application thrown out.”
