Step 1: Set up your student account

Your student account gives you access to my.unimelb, your student email and lots more. You'll use your student account almost every day when you're studying at the University. Once you've set it up, you can accept your offer and enrol in your course.

1. Set up your account

To set up your account you will need the following information:

  • Full name: Enter all given names and family name as provided in your application.
  • Student ID number: This is found in your offer letter.
  • Date of birth: Type in the format DD/MM/YYYY.
  • Postcode: This is the postcode you used in your application.
    • The postcode should match your 'preferred' address on your course (degree) application or current student record. If you are unsure of your postcode, please contact Stop 1 for assistance.

Having difficulty creating your account?

You may need to wait up to two hours after receiving your offer before you can activate your account. If you experience problems after this time, see our account activation difficulties page or contact Stop 1 for assistance.

2. Check your inbox

After you set up your account, you will receive a system-generated email to your personal email address (the one you used when applying to the University). This email contains your username, student ID, and a unique verification link which you need to click to finalise the set-up of your University account.

The verification link expires 60 minutes after the email is delivered. If you do not click the link before it expires, you will need to use the link above to re-enter your details and generate a new verification email.

Make sure you keep a record of your username and password, as you will need them to access systems such as my.unimelb and your student email.

3. Set up multifactor authentication with Okta Verify

Multifactor authentication (MFA) is an additional security step which verifies your identity when you log in to University of Melbourne platforms and systems. This extra layer of security protects your account from unauthorised access.
