Building 168 and Atrium

The lower four levels of the Building 168 will be completely renovated to provide a vibrant new home for UMSU and deliver exciting new informal learning spaces at the heart of the Precinct.

East-facing terraces overlooking the Precinct landscape will be created by removing parts of the brick façade, with natural aluminium and timber doors and windows increasing the material warmth and flexibility of the building.

Internally, spaces have been opened to create flexible collaborative work spaces to accommodate the wide range of functions and services that UMSU provides. A new Atrium to the south of the Building will provide multiple access points and breakout spaces directly accessible to UMSU’s spaces, while accommodating both formal and informal activities.

The transparent Atrium will create light-filled and highly-visible student spaces, allowing open movement and visual connections to all levels, with internal and external greenery throughout and natural timber opening windows. The Atrium will link to the Eastern Resource Centre (ERC) Library, transforming the use of the building and connecting it with several buildings in the Precinct.
