New School Art Prize (CLOSED)

Image for New School Art Prize (CLOSED)

The New Student Precinct, in partnership with Next Wave, is proud to present the New School Art Prize.

The New School Art Prize invites students to submit an image in response to a curatorial prompt for the chance to be awarded a $1500 art prize. The successful student would also have their image reproduced as a temporary vinyl billboard presented on the east wall of the Peter Hall building.

Students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply, either as individual artists or collectives.

CURATORIAL PROMPT:
Imagine the university as a canvas. The administration is a sandpit, the curriculum flows into the sea. Abstraction opens, poetics move, concepts deconstruct and metaphors displace language in your radical expanded studio.

What can education learn from the arts? Can images emancipate learning systems, see beyond traps of university corridors, faculties and curricula? Can art disrupt hierarchies, create new subjects, enact frameworks for new schools of thought?

For the New School Art Prize, please submit an image to be reproduced as a billboard at the University of Melbourne Parkville Campus. Launching from the curatorial prompt above, tell us how we learn from your image, or let the image speak for itself.

APPLICATIONS CLOSED 9 SEPTEMBER 2018
