Join us for a day of fun and festivities!
We are proud to present the New Student Precinct Festival on Wednesday 3 October on the University of Melbourne’s Parkville Campus.
Staff, students, alumni and our community are invited to this free, all-day event centred on Art, Design, Sustainability and Indigenous Engagement. Book in for a range of deep-dive talks, tours and workshops, or drop by for lunch in the 1888 Garden with food trucks, live music, planting, free food tasting and more.

Project partners, architects, designers and consultants will facilitate workshops, presentations and interactive activities centred on the themes of Design and Sustainability.
What's Behind the Hoarding? A New Student Precinct Site Tour
Ever wanted to explore a demolition site? Curious about construction? Join the Project Team with Project Managers, Codicote, on a tour of the Project’s early and enabling site and learn about building at a precinct-scale.

Come and hear from civil and structural engineering consultants and University alumni in this informative panel, discussing the evolving role of a structural and civil engineer on large-scale, complex construction projects. Panellist's will also provide insight into the transition from study into industry. The event will culminate in a networking session with an opportunity to talk to the presenters over morning tea.

Interactive activities will also be run by our design our partners, Lyons Architecture, Architects EAT, Aurecon, Indigenous students, the Fair Food Unicycle, research students and the Living Pavilion.

The afternoon session will focus on the theme of Art, Culture and Design and will culminate in panel discussion with internationally renowned architects, Carey Lyon and Julie Eizenberg, both University of Melbourne alumni now working on the New Student Precinct Project.
Next Wave's Creative Activations at the New Student Precinct
Join Next Wave on the tour of the outdoor artworks currently on display around the Precinct. The tour will feature talks and performances by leading artists in collaboration with University of Melbourne students, as well as a ceremony to award the winner of the New School Art Prize.

Book Now'A quiet game of disobedience' with Kym Maxwell
Do you want to question regular behaviour in public spaces at the New Student Precinct? Kym Maxwell wants to too, enticing you to explore Alan Kaprow’s 60’s art theory ‘How to Make a Happening’. We will deliberately intervene in space in unexpected ways as if in a quiet game of disobedience. This two-hour workshop will alter your perceptions of public space and its norms with instructional processes and inventions that are fun and playful. An experience for the sake of fun, exchange and to contradict the ordinary.
