Construction Procurement Methods

Melbourne School of Design
60 students engaged to date

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

As part of the Master of Construction Management program, the Procurement Methods subject exposes students to construction procurement in a broad sense, by articulating and examining the legal and functional links between multiple contracting parties in project delivery. Different procurement methods with their associated contract types are introduced, and the theories and principles governing their selection discussed.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW

Students undertaking the subject in Semester 2 2017 used the Precinct as a case study to develop an understanding of a typical tender and bidding process for the contracting of consultants and service providers on a complex construction project.  Students worked in teams to follow the procurement procedure of the Precinct’s contractors, subcontractors and consultants, to develop a written report and presentation.

OPPORTUNITIES

Students were provided with the opportunity to engage and learn directly from the Project’s Construction Managers during a site tour of the live Precinct construction zone.
