Semester 1 exams
As most subjects will be delivered on-campus across our undergraduate and postgraduate programs in 2023, many students will have on-campus exams.
If you are enrolled in campus-based subjects in Semester 1 with end of semester examinations, you are expected to be located in Melbourne for the entire exams period (5-23 June 2023) as you may be required to take your exams on campus.
In Semester 1 2023, your end of semester examinations will be either:
- On-Campus: This will be an in-person exam taken in Melbourne supervised by an invigilator. It may be a hand-written exam or a digital exam taken on a laptop.
- Off-Campus: This will be an online exam taken remotely.
The highest standards of academic integrity apply to all examinations no matter what type of exam you sit.
We will continue to update these pages with further information about the Semester 1 Exams arrangements so please check back regularly. The Semester 1 Exams Timetable will be published on Monday 8 May.
Ensure your current address and phone number is up to date in my.unimelb at all times, even if you are not in Australia. Take a moment to check and update your contact details now. Find out more about how to update your contact details.
How to access your exam timetable
You will be able to view your individual exam timetable via the my.unimelb homepage. Check if your subject has further assessment tasks such as take-home, practical, oral or performance exams, via your LMS subject site or ask your Subject Coordinator.
Departmental (faculty-managed) exams
Some exams will be coordinated by your faculty. If you have any faculty-managed exams, you will be notified of this by your Subject Coordinator.
If you were expecting to see an exam in your timetable but it isn’t there, please refer to your LMS subject site or ask your Subject Coordinator.
Your exam details
Your exam timetable in my.unimelb will include the exam format, date and start time, writing time, and reading time (if applicable) for each of your exams. If you are sitting an exam with Alternative Exam Arrangements, an example of your exam timetable can be found on the Alternative Exam Arrangements page.
Date and start time
Noted in green beneath the subject name, this is the date and time that you will be able to commence your exam. The start time is displayed in Melbourne time (AEST/AEDT).
The timetable has been designed to enable you to complete your exams between the hours of 7am and 9pm in your time zone. Exam times have been adjusted to accommodate time zones for overseas students based on their contact address as of the date communicated to students identified as being outside of Australia.
You must ensure you are available to attend your online assessments during the exam period. The University will not reschedule exams for circumstances that are considered reasonably in your control, such as employment commitments, travel, and social engagements such as weddings or birthdays.
Reading time
It is recommended you use this allocated time to read the exam and plan your approach. In the LMS, the reading time is automatically included in the official exam time, and begins at the listed start time of the exam.
Writing time
The total writing time for your exam.
Venue and Zoom link (if applicable)
The venue for your exam. When the Zoom link for your exam has been generated, it will be available here.
Exam conditions
This displays the format for your exam. Different exam formats will have different time commitments and conditions, so you will need to be prepared for the assigned exam formats for each of your exams.
Having issues?
- If you can't view your full timetable in my.unimelb, try searching for your individual subjects using the subject code via the exam timetable system.
- To ensure you have all of the information and details that you need to plan your exam schedule carefully, please refer to the my.unimelb homepage for your full individual exam timetable.
How to plan your exam schedule
Check your exam timetable carefully. Your exams may be delivered in different exam formats, once your subject coordinator has confirmed your exam format you should review the guides available.
What if I have an exam clash?
If your central exam clashes with a Faculty-managed exam, test, or intensive, you should contact your Subject Coordinator and/or department so that they can make alternative arrangements for you. You are expected to complete all of your centrally-managed exams at their scheduled time.
What if I have three exams in one day?
Students can sit no more than two exams in one day. If a Faculty-managed exam is one of your three exams in one day, contact your Subject Coordinator and/or department so that they can make alternative arrangements for that exam. You are expected to complete all of your centrally-managed exams at their scheduled time.
