Faculty or school restrictions on requisite waivers

Check if any restrictions apply to subject requisite waivers in your course.

Not all subjects at the University of Melbourne allow requisite waivers. Before you request a waiver, check if there are restrictions that will require you to complete the requisite.

Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning

Waivers: Not allowed in Architecture major (with one exception)

Waivers are not permitted for subjects in the Architecture major. If you do not meet the prerequisite by the time the subject begins, you cannot enrol.

Your options:

  • Complete the prerequisite first
  • Enrol in the prerequisite in a later study period (but complete it before the Architecture major subject begins)

Exception: ARCH30002 Design Studio Epsilon (capstone)

Waiver may be considered for ABPL30041 Architectural Tectonics if:

  • You only have 37.5 credit points remaining (including both subjects), and
  • You have a minimum 70% average across your studies

Faculty of Arts

Waivers: Not allowed (for specific subjects)

Under no circumstances will waivers be approved for the following subjects:

  • POLS30003 Public Affairs Internship
  • POLS30001 Parliamentary Internship
  • SOCI30005 Sociology Internship

School of Biomedical Sciences

Waivers: Limited – only in specific cases

Waivers are only considered if you have completed equivalent study at another institution. This includes requests to take a prerequisite concurrently.

You must demonstrate that you have sufficient knowledge of the concepts taught in the prerequisite subjects by passing the prerequisite before progressing to the next core subject.

Important: If you fail or withdraw from a core subject, you may need to extend your course duration.

Faculty of Business and Economics

Waivers: Not allowed

If you do not meet the prerequisite by the time the subject begins, you cannot enrol.

Your options:

  • Complete the prerequisite first
  • Enrol in the prerequisite in a later study period (but complete it before the FBE subject begins)
  • Choose a different subject (if the subject is elective)

School of Psychological Sciences

Waivers: Not allowed (for specific subjects)

Under no circumstances will waivers be approved for the following subjects:

  • PSYC30021 Psychological Science: Theory & Practice
    • Prerequisite: PSYC30013 Research Methods for Human Inquiry
  • PSYC40013 Advanced Psychological Theory & Practice
    • Prerequisite: PSYC40014 Advanced Research Methods in Psychology
