Early exit awards are available for graduate students who can't or choose not to continue their studies. They allow students to leave their course with a lesser qualification.
About early exit awards
Early exit awards are available for graduate students who cannot continue their studies or choose not to continue their studies. These awards allow students to leave their course with a lesser qualification, such as a graduate diploma or graduate certificate.
If you receive an early exit award, you must discontinue your original course. This means you will be withdrawn from your current course. To complete your original course later, you must apply for readmission through the standard process.
For example: A masters student applies for an early exit with a graduate diploma. If granted, the student receives the graduate diploma and is withdrawn from the masters course.
Eligibility for early exit awards
Early exit awards are only available to students enrolled in graduate courses. Undergraduate students are not eligible.
The availability of early exit awards varies across faculties. For more information, please check your faculty's webpages, the Handbook entry for your course, or book an appointment with a Course Adviser.
You may be eligible for an early exit award if:
- You are currently admitted to or have withdrawn from a graduate course
- There is no time limit on applying for an exit award if you have already withdrawn.
- You have completed:
- 50 credit points – may be eligible for a graduate certificate*
- 100 credit points – may be eligible for a graduate diploma*
- You meet the course rules for the exit award through your completed enrolment
- You have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI)
- You have no outstanding fees or graduation sanctions
- All subject results are finalised.
