Policy documents

Use the documents below to understand your cover or make a claim.

Coverage

Who is covered?

  • All enrolled full-time and part-time students
  • Non-University students participating in affiliated MU Sport club activities
  • College residents participating in intercollegiate sport

When does cover apply?

Cover applies while you are participating in an authorised University activity, including:

  • attending lectures, classes and other teaching activities
  • participating in student club activities and events
  • participating in affiliated MU Sport training and competitions
  • participating in intercollegiate sport as an enrolled student or college resident

What does the policy cover?

Personal accident insurance provides three types of benefits.

  • Paid if an injury results in death or a ‘capital event’, such as:

    • permanent total disability
    • paraplegia or quadriplegia
    • loss of a limb
    • loss of hearing
    • loss of vision

    Maximum benefit:

    • Students: $500,000
    • Non-students: $100,000
  • Paid if an injury prevents you from working and your employer is not paying sick leave.

    Student benefit

    • 85% of pre-injury salary
    • Maximum $400 per week
    • 7-day waiting period
    • Maximum 104 weeks

    Non-student benefit

    • 85% of pre-injury salary
    • Maximum $300 per week
    • 14-day waiting period
    • Maximum 104 weeks
  • Provides cover of up to $20,000 for eligible non-Medicare medical expenses.

A $50 excess applies to each claim and expenses must be incurred within 12 months of the injury.

Non-Medicare medical expenses are costs that either:

    • do not have a Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) item number, or
    • are not covered by your private health insurance or Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), if applicable.

Personal Accident Insurance cannot cover any part of a medical expense that is payable under Medicare.

This includes both the Medicare benefit and the Medicare gap, which is the difference between the amount paid by Medicare and the amount charged by your healthcare provider.

Common expenses claimed under this policy include:

    • emergency ambulance services
    • physiotherapy
    • osteopathy
    • chiropractic treatment

Medical expenses not claimable through Medicare

Some items on a doctor's or hospital's invoice may include an MBS item number but also state that the fee is not claimable through Medicare. These costs may still be eligible under the Personal Accident Insurance policy.

If you're unsure whether an expense can be claimed, include it in your claim submission and allow the insurer to assess your eligibility.
