Stop 1 Southbank Hub

Stop 1 Southbank Hub

Stop 1 is your first contact point for student support – by phone, email or in-person support.

About Stop 1 at the Hub

You can visit Stop 1 at the Southbank Hub without an appointment to speak with our advisors about a range of administrative enquiries, including fees, graduations, examinations, timetabling, and more.

A Course Planning advisor is available twice a week for Fine Arts and Music specific questions and guidance.

We're trying out longer Stop 1 support hours

After hours when Stop 1 in-person hubs are closed, you can now call us between 5.00-6.45pm, Monday to Wednesday to connect with a range of support services and general advice.

This pilot will run until Friday 10 July and aims to improve access to student support services for those of you with busy days balancing study, work, caregiving and other commitments.

SEDS Drop-in Labs are available for students who want to meet with a Student Equity and Disability Services (SEDS) Advisor. Drop-ins will take place during Semester 1 at the Southbank campus. Learn more.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • To order your first student card, please follow the instructions on the Get your first student card page.

To order a replacement student card, please follow the instructions on the Get a replacement student card page.

Once you have ordered your student card, you will receive two emails:

    1. Confirming we have received your student card order
    2. Confirming your photo has been approved (if you have uploaded a new one)

Once you have received both emails, your card will be ready for collection after 2 business days from when you placed your order. Please see your photo approval email for more information.

Important information to collect your card:
You can collect your card in person from Stop 1, Parkville or Southbank during opening hours.

You must bring a physical approved form of photo ID (Photocopies or digital copies are not accepted):

You must be enrolled in subjects this semester for your student card to be printed.

Students on Leave of Absence or with deferred offers are not eligible for a student card.

Graduate research students must have their enrolment finalised by their faculty to be eligible for a student card.

  • Only students enrolled in a Faculty of Fine Arts and Music course are granted access to buildings at the Southbank campus. If you're a Parkville student, you'll only get access if you're taking a subject held at Southbank.

If you’ve confirmed you should have access, but your student card won’t allow you to get into buildings, try the steps below:

    1. Check your student card is active:

You can do this at Stop 1. A working card will make a 'beep' sound when tapped on a card reader. The nearest reader is at the entrance to the Southbank Hub.

If your card does not make a sound, it may be faulty. Please visit Stop 1 to request a free replacement.

    2. Request building access:

Once Stop 1 has confirmed that your card is active, please email fineartsmusic-accessrequests@unimelb.edu.au for further support. In your email, include the following details:

    • Full name
    • Student ID number
    • Name(s) of the building(s) or room(s) you need access to
    • Confirmation that Stop 1 has tested and confirmed your card is active
  • For step-by-step guides on accessing your timetable, booking a practice room, checking in, and changing or cancelling your booking, please visit the Timetable & Room Bookings website.

If you require further support after reviewing the website and frequently asked questions, please visit Stop 1 or contact the FFAM Timetable and Room Bookings team at fineartsmusic-bookings@unimelb.edu.au.

  • You can follow device-specific step-by-step instructions to connect to the University Wi-Fi network, UniWireless.

    Troubleshooting steps
If you are unable to connect to the Wi-Fi after reviewing the above website, please try the following troubleshooting steps (or read through this handy troubleshooting guide):

    • Check the device is set to automatic DNS configuration.
    • Try clearing your device cache, forgetting the wireless network (all University networks: UniWireless, Connect2UoM, eduroam) and then try to reconnect.
    • Connect to the Connect2UoM wireless network. This network does not provide internet access. However, it can be used to run Cloudpath Express, a program that can help solve connectivity issues with the other networks.
    • If you're not prompted to accept the UniWireless terms of use after following these steps, try visiting a website you've never visited before.
    • If you’re unable to connect to the UniWireless network, try connecting to the Eduroam network.
