How to enter class timetable preferences
Find out how to select your class timetable preferences.
Semester 2 timetable and enrolment datesYou must enrol in a subject before you can start selecting your class timetable preferences. Submit your preferences by 8am (AEST), Monday 6 July. You can change your class timetable preferences up until this time. You can continue to enrol yourself in or change your Semester 2 subjects until the last self-enrol date on Friday 7 August, however class places may be limited. About the class timetable preferences period
- We’ll email you when preference entry opens for a study period you’re enrolled in. The email will include the preference entry deadline.
- In this period, you can enter your class preferences in MyTimetable for your enrolled subjects.
- You will number the class times in order, the first being your first preference for each class, tutorial or other delivery mode required for each subject. This lets you choose which class times you’d most like to attend
- You must submit your class timetable preferences before the system can create your class timetable.
- MyTimetable will take your preferences into account when it makes class schedules for everyone
- Preferences are not guaranteed but will be considered.
Be aware timetables may change
- Timetables can change during the preference entry period. New class and lecture times can also be added.
- We recommend you check MyTimetable regularly before the preference entry deadline
- You’ll get an email to your student account if a class you picked changes.
Enrol in your subjects
You must enrol in subjects first.
Then you can choose your class preferences. It may take up to 24 hours for subjects to show in the system after you enrol.
How to select class timetable preferences
You must submit your class preferences before the system can create your class timetable. This lets you choose which class times you’d most like to attend. MyTimetable will take your preferences into account when it makes class schedules for everyone. You can choose your class timetable preferences on a desktop, mobile or tablet.

- Log into MyTimetable
- Go to your dashboard in the top left corner menu
- Select the Action required tab on the right-hand side
- Click on the first class type that needs preferences
- Drag activities from Classes to Preferences in the order you prefer
- Click Save when you’re done
- To review your selections, click the Summary icon to see an overview of all your preferences.

- Log into MyTimetable
- Tap the ☰ menu (hamburger icon) in the top left corner, then select Preferences
- You’ll see a grid view, and a summary view which shows all your current preferences in one place.
- Tap the Preferences pane card at the bottom (the two ticks with lines icon) to open your preferences pop-up.
- This pop-up lists all your subjects that are open for preferences.
- To rank your preferred class times, drag and drop each activity in your desired order. On mobile, dragging is vertical (up and down), to give you more room to see the class details.
- When you’re happy with your order, tap Save icon (hard disk) to confirm your preferences.
- You can still tap on any class in the grid to view details once your preferences are saved.
Important information for entering preferences
- If a class has only one available time, it will automatically appear in your preferences list, and there's no action for you
- If there are more than four options, you must select at least four preferences
- Make sure you save your preferences before the deadline
- After the preference entry period closes, you won’t be able to make changes in MyTimetable until the review and adjust period opens.
About workflow subjects
Some subjects, such as workshops, studios, and practical's, use a workflow. Workflow subjects are grouped to ensure your class times match up. Complete each step with care and double-check your final review before saving.

- Log into MyTimetable.
- Click on your dashboard in the top left-hand corner.
- Look under action required for subjects marked as requiring workflow. These will have a workflow icon (an arrow with a fork). Hover over the icon to see a tooltip confirming it’s part of a workflow.
- Click the workflow icon to open the workflow preference summary.
- Select Enter new preferences to begin.
- The workflow will guide you through:
- Enter your first preferences for all activity types.
- Repeat the process for second and subsequent preferences, until all required preferences are entered.
- In some subjects, you may only need to select one class. The system will assign the remaining classes.
- Review your preferences at the end and click Save
- You can return to the workflow later if you want to edit or change your selections.

- Log in to MyTimetable.
- Open the preferences pane (bottom of your screen).
- Under workflow required, look for subjects with the workflow icon (an arrow with a fork).
- Tap the workflow icon to open the workflow preference summary.
- Select Enter new preferences to start.
- The workflow will guide you to:
- Enter your first preferences for each activity type (for example, Practical 1, Workshop 1).
- Then repeat for second preferences, and keep going until all rounds are done.
- In some cases, you may only need to select one class within the workflow subject. The system will assign the remaining classes.
- At the end, you’ll see a review screen showing your selected preferences
- You can return later to redo or update your preferences if needed.

Based on its delivery mode, a subject may have on campus and/or online classes.
We recommend you attend on campus classes whenever possible, even if attendance is not mandatory. Attending classes in real time and in person will improve your learning experience.
If you are unable to attend a class, you may be able to watch a recording of the class if attendance is not mandatory.
Check the attendance and participation rules for your subject in the Handbook.

Classes can change during the preference entry period. New class times and delivery methods may also be added. You can change your preferences until the preference entry deadline.

Here are some reason's why a subject may have no classes available:
- It is taught without classes:
- Some subjects that are research or project-based may not have classes
- Some subjects are taught entirely online
- Learning materials are available through the LMS.
- Another timetabling system applies (for example: the LMS). You can find this information on:
- The subject entry in the Handbook.
- The subject page in the LMS.
- In subject notifications sent to your student email.
- The subject's faculty website.
- If you cannot find any information, contact Stop 1.
- It is taught without classes:

If your enrolled subject isn’t showing in the system or you can’t enter your preferences:
- Check if the class only runs at one time. If there's only one class option, you'll be automatically assigned to it and you don't need to enter preferences.
- If you just enrolled in a subject, wait up to 24 hours for it to show in the system.
- If your subject is still not appearing after waiting 24 hours, contact Stop 1.

You can make changes to your saved preferences anytime during the preference entry period.
- Log into MyTimetable.
- Click on your dashboard on the top left hand side.
- Under action required, select Preference.
- Click on the class you need to update preferences for
- Drag activities from Classes to Preferences in your desired order. You can also move an existing preference within the timetable.
- Save your preferences when you're done.
- Check the preferences entered by clicking on the summary icon.

You can create your class timetable based on the classes that have availability.
Class timetable creation
Once preference entry has closed, the system will allocate classes to everyone who entered preferences.
- Subjects will be unavailable in the system while timetables are being generated
- You will receive an email to notify you when your class timetable is ready.
