About student cards
All enrolled students must hold a University of Melbourne student card.
Use your student card to:
- Identify yourself
- Access university buildings
- Use Library and printing services
- Sit your exams
- Get concession discounts
- Make University transactions.
You can order a student card as soon as you enrol in subjects for your course. You must keep your student card for the duration of your course.

Your first student card is the first time ordering a student card at the University of Melbourne.
Order a replacement student card if your card expires, gets lost, damaged, stolen or is not working.

Once you have ordered your student card, you will receive two emails:
- Confirming we have received your student card order
- Confirming your photo has been approved (if you have uploaded a new one).
Once you have received both emails, your card will be ready for collection within 2 business days. Please see your photo approval email for more information.
You must be enrolled in subjects this semester for your student card to be printed.
Students on Leave of Absence or with deferred offers are not eligible for a student card.
Graduate research students must have their enrolment finalised by their faculty to be eligible for a student card.

Important information to collect your card:
You can collect your card in person from Stop 1, Parkville or Southbank during opening hours.
You must bring a physical approved form of photo ID:
- Passport, or
- Australian Driver's License, or
- 100 points of identification (Photocopies or digital copies are not accepted).

Some reasons you may not have received your student card include:
Your online order was not finalised
If you ordered a replacement card for a reason other than an expired card, your order may not be finalised yet.
Check you have successfully enrolled in your course, and are enrolled in at least one subject. Read how to check your enrolment.
Replacement cards for stolen or faulty cards are only printed once Stop 1 has verified:
- your faulty card, or
- your police report (for stolen cards).
Verification must be done in person at Stop 1 (Parkville or Southbank).
Your student card picture was rejected
After you submit your photo, the Student Card team will review it and email you to confirm whether your order has been approved or rejected.
If your photo is rejected:
- Check the email for the reason and instructions on how to resubmit
- Check your junk or spam folder, as the email may be filtered.
If you haven’t received an email within 2 business days of submitting your photo, please submit an enquiry so we can investigate.
Your student card may still be on its way to you in the mail
Once mailed, expected delivery times are:
- International addresses: 4–5 weeks from shipping date
- Australian addresses: 5–10 business days from shipping date.
Student cards are sent via Australia Post Standard Mail, so tracking is not available.
If your card hasn’t arrived within these timeframes, submit an enquiry.
Your student card may be lost in the mail
If your student card hasn’t arrived within the expected delivery timeframe, it may have been lost in transit.
Please submit an enquiry so our team can investigate further.

If your photo doesn't meet the requirements, you will receive an email confirming your photo hasn't been approved and be prompted to submit another photo. Make sure you're following the photo guidelines.

- Log in using the same username and password you use for my.unimelb. Your username is not your email address or student ID number. It was sent to your personal email when you set up your student account.
- Try using a laptop or desktop computer. CaptureME may not work properly on mobile.
- Try using a different browser and/or clearing your browser cache. For best results, use Google Chrome.
- Check you have successfully enrolled in your degree (course) and enrolled in at least one subject. Read how to check your enrolment.
- If you have only just enrolled, wait at least 24 hours before attempting to log into CaptureME.

Domestic students
VerifyME will reject your ID if any details are incorrect. Please check your information carefully before you submit. If you still have problems or use up all your attempts, select “I don’t have an Australian Passport or Australian Driver’s Licence.” You will then be able to upload your ID manually.
International students
You only need to verify your ID if you have an Australian passport or Australian driver’s licence. If you don’t have one, select “I don’t have an Australian Passport or Australian Driver’s Licence.” You will then be able to upload your ID manually.

If you are currently on a Leave of Absence, you are not eligible for a student card. If you wish to return from leave early, you will become eligible again and Stop 1 can print a new card for you.
Advice for research students:
If you require borrowing access from the libraries during your leave, you may be able to have a complimentary library membership. You can read more on our Complimentary Memberships page.
