While studying overseas is a great experience, it's important to ensure your studies will fit into your degree so that you can complete your degree requirements and graduate. You will need to carefully consider which host institution has the right subjects for your overall study experience.

2. Complete your application
You've made the decision to study overseas - it's time to make it official and formally apply. There are a few parts to the application process, which we've outlined below to make it easier.

3. Get University of Melbourne approval
After you've submitted your application, the University of Melbourne will assess it for approval. If approved, you’ll be accepted into the Global Semester program.

4. Complete your overseas study plan
You’ve received your destination outcome email. It’s time to complete and submit your overseas study plan for approval.

5. Apply to your host institution
Now it's time to start your host university application.

6. Get ready
You’re almost there! Now it’s time to get planning for the trip itself. Our to-do list below outlines a bunch of important tasks you need to complete before you travel.

7. When you arrive
Welcome to your host destination and institution! Before you start making new lifelong friends and exploring, there are a couple of quick admin tasks to complete.

8. While overseas
You've made it overseas. Congratulations! Now that you’re enrolled at your host institution and settled in, we won’t take up much of your time, there are just a couple of things you’ll need to keep on top of.

9. Complete the final steps
We hope you had an unforgettable experience and have made many lifelong friends. Now it’s time to ensure your stay at your host institution is complete and any relevant credit points are transferred back to your University of Melbourne degree.
Application deadlines for global semester programs
You will need to start planning your global semester approximately 6–12 months prior to when you would like your experience to commence.
When to apply:
- Semester 1 commencing programs: June of the year prior
- Semester 2 commencing programs: November of the year prior
- Refer to the published application deadlines for the current round.
