Applying for an assessment adjustment

  • When one of your assessments was due or undertaken more than four business days ago, you will need to provide a reason why you did not submit a timely application. You can:

    • Provide a reason for lateness, which will need to be verified by your documents, or
    • Remove the late assessment from the request.

    You only need to provide a late reason if one or more assessments is late. Otherwise, you can proceed with the application by leaving the space blank.

  • You are unable to amend any information in your application once it is submitted. If you have provided incorrect details, you can withdraw the application and apply again.

    If you need to provide different documentation, you can do that by logging in to the portal. You must do this before eligibility is checked as providing documents later will not change your eligibility decision unless you request a review.

  • You can continue to submit an application without supporting documents by noting that you will upload the documents later.

    Your application will remain on hold until you login to the application portal and provide documents. If you do not provide them without four business days, your application will be automatically withdrawn.

  • If multiple circumstances have impacted your ability to prepare for or complete your assessment, choose the one that matches the documents you have. Your circumstance selection will not impact your eligibility (only the documents do) so choose what best fits and write a brief summary in the application.

    For example, if you are suffering both hardship and health issues but only have a medical certificate, choose the health condition circumstance to best match your medical certificate.

  • In rare cases where no other adjustments are available for your request, the faculty may provide a late withdrawal. This is only if all other options are considered unsuitable.

    A late withdrawal will not be provided based on the student’s personal preference.

  • Not all mid-semester tests offer re-sits. Depending on the assessment, you may receive a re-weighting or an alternative assessment instead.

  • If you have selected an assessment from the drop-down options in the application form, there may be some fields blank, such as the weighting.

    This will not impact your application as long as the due date is correct. If your due date is incorrect and you are unable to update it:

    1. Check the assessment you have selected is correct
    2. If it is, Contact Stop 1 for advice.

  • While in many cases short extensions are approved the same day, some may take longer, including where prior extensions have already been granted.

Assessment outcomes

  • No. The assessment adjustments available will depend on the assessment type, subject requirements and learning outcomes.

    Not all adjustment types are available for every assessment.

  • Not all subjects offer mid semester test re-sits. Depending on the assessment, you may receive a re-weighting or an alternative assessment instead.

  • If you apply for special consideration for an end-of-semester exam, you must be available during the entire special and supplementary exam period.

    If approved, you may receive a special exam. We’ll notify you of the date, time and location in your student email before the exam period begins. For more information, visit the Special and supplementary exams page.

  • If you're granted a special assessment:

    • Your subject result will display a ‘SPE’ grade and your mark will be blank.
    • Once you complete your special assessment, your final result will replace the SPE grade, usually within 10 working days.

    Or you can choose to decline your special assessment:

    • For exams and practical assessments, you must decline before the assessment/exam starts.
    • For submitted assessments (eg written assignments), you must decline before the assessment due date and time.
    • If you decline, you'll receive your grade and mark based on your original assessment submission.
    • Your special consideration outcome notification will explain how to decline.
    • If you neither decline nor complete your special assessment, you'll receive a zero mark for the assessment.
