Applying for an assessment adjustment
Understand how to apply for a short extension, extension or special consideration, including:
- Application deadlines
- Step-by-step instructions
- Application requirements for each assessment adjustment type
- What happens after submitting your application
Submitting an application does not guarantee you will be eligible for an assessment adjustment. For this reason, we recommend completing your assessment if you can do so without risking your health or the health of others.
Application deadlines
-
You must apply for a short extension by the assignment’s deadline. If the deadline has already passed, you will need to apply for special consideration.
-
You must apply no later than four calendar days after your assignment's due date or missed class.
-
We will only accept late applications if you:
- Apply before the release of subject results, and
- Were unable to submit your application on time (for example due to hospitalisation, severe trauma or close personal or family bereavement), and
- Submit supporting documents that confirms the impact of those circumstances.
We cannot accept applications after the release of subject results. If you missed the deadline and have failed a subject, you can apply for fee remission.

When you apply, you will be asked if you have a preferred adjustment. This is where you note if a particular adjustment is not appropriate for your circumstances.
These are reasonable adjustments to the assessment's format or delivery mode to accommodate your circumstances. The assessment type and due date remain the same. For example, if you have a broken arm and would like to discuss the option of undertaking an oral presentation instead of a written assignment.
Requests for preferred adjustments must be supported by your documents. Requests based solely on student preference will not be considered.
Exam formats and subject delivery modes are not able to be changed without verified Alternative Exam Arrangements (AEAs) in place.
