Short extensions
Apply for a short extension if you need more time to complete your assessment.
About extensions
An extension is a longer period of time to submit the assessment. It provides a one-off adjustment to an assessment's due date. A short extension is up to and including 10 business days.
Assessments eligible for an extension
Any untimed assessment where faculty process permits extensions. For example:
- Written assignments
- Essays
- Projects.
Assessments not usually eligible for an extension:
- Exams
- Quizzes
- Lab, practical or performance assessments
- Attendance or tutorial participation
- Any assessment where faculty process does not permit extensions.
If your assessment is not eligible for an extension, special consideration may be an option.
Deadline to apply
Apply for a short extension any time before the assignment's due.
Late application for short extensions
We cannot accept late applications. If you miss this deadline, consider applying for special consideration.
Eligibility
We follow the policy outlining extensions.
Short extensions are only available if:
- Your application is submitted before the deadline
- The faculty permits extensions for the assessment task, and
- You are requesting a length of time covered under the faculty's extension process below.
How to apply
- Check the Learning Management System (LMS), or ask your lecturer, tutor, or subject coordinator:
- If extensions are available for your assessment
- Which faculty process applies (ie which faculty or school owns the subject)
- The length of time you may be eligible to apply for.
- Follow the faculty's process outlined below.
- If you're able to, continue working on your assessment and submit it when possible. We recommend submitting as soon as possible as late penalties may apply if your extension application is ineligible.
