Costs you may need to pay
These are some of the other costs you can expect in addition to your tuition fees, Student Services and Amenities Fee, and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). The payment methods for these costs may vary.
Additional study costs
Some courses or subjects have added costs. These may include equipment, materials, travel or other course-related expenses. If additional study costs apply, your faculty or teaching staff will let you know what you need to pay for and when.
For example, you may need to pay for:
- Equipment and specialist tools – such as stethoscopes, dissection kits, clinical or optometry equipment
- Excursions and field trips – including travel and accommodation
- Materials and study resources – such as textbooks, artist supplies, or calculators
- Placement-related costs – including travel, accommodation, and vaccinations
- Safety equipment and clothing – for example, lab coats, safety goggles, coveralls or steel-cap boots
- Uniforms and other clothing – such as clinical uniforms, closed-toe shoes and name badges.
For some courses these costs may be significant. For example, optometry clinical equipment can cost upwards of $4,000.
The Australian Government defines what added costs are allowed. For more information, see Department of Education - incidental fees.
