Estimate your tuition fees
For indicative costs to help you plan your studies and finances, use this optional process to look up your tuition fees.
Find your fee cost
Your Statement of Liability is the most accurate place to check the tuition fees for your enrolled subjects.
The fee tables below are useful if you want to estimate your fees when your statement isn’t yet available.
Jump to your tuition fee or program type:
- International full fee paying
- Australian full fee paying
- Commonwealth supported place (CSP)

- Cross-institutional study
- Study abroad and exchange
- Uni Ready Enabling Program
You can find your fee type on your offer letter or in my.unimelb.
Tips for using the fee table
- As the file is large and the table has a lot of detail, we recommend using a desktop computer connected to Wi-Fi.
- After you've downloaded and opened the Fee Table, use CTRL+F (or CMD+F) to search for your subject by subject name or code.
Calculation method
Your fee type below will indicate whether your need to calculate by subject or course.
-
Calculate your fees by adding together the individual fees for each subject you enrol in.
-
Course-based fees are calculated using the Equivalent Full-Time Study Load (EFTSL) of your subjects and the annual course fee.
To calculate the cost of each subject:
Subject EFTSL × annual course fee = subject cost
To estimate the cost for a study period:
- Add the EFTSL value of all subjects you are studying in that period.
- Multiply the total EFTSL by the annual course fee.
International full fee paying
International fee-paying students do not receive Australian Government funding for their tuition fees. The University determines the tuition fees, which are based on your enrolment and study load.
To secure your place in a course, international students pay a minimum deposit of AUD$17,000. The deposit payment is credited as the first instalment towards your tuition fees.
If you're a student visa applicant, you also need to arrange Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).

Commonwealth supported place (CSP)
If you are enroled in a CSP, the Australian Government subsidises the cost of your tuition. You still need to pay a student contribution amount, which is your share of the cost of your studies.
CSPs are only available to Australian or New Zealand citizens, or Australian permanent resident visa holders (including a permanent humanitarian visa).
Eligible CSP students can defer payment of student contribution amounts with a HELP loan.

Enabling and bridging study
Enabling study is single subject study that is undertaken for the purpose of meeting entry requirements for a course (but excludes foundation studies).
If you're an overseas-trained professional and need to undertake some study in order to meet the entry requirements to practice your profession in Australia, you may be eligible to enrol in a bridging program.
Eligible students can defer payment with a HELP loan.
Cross-institutional study
-
Where possible, incoming cross-institutional study students will be enrolled on the same fee basis as their current enrolment at their home institution.
Check the fee table for your current enrolment basis above.
The University will issue fee invoices directly to the student and is unable to administer sponsorship for incoming cross-institutional study students.
-
Check with the host institution for their fee information.
Study abroad and exchange
-
Calculate by subject
If you are a University of Melbourne student heading overseas to study on exchange, you will continue to pay tuition fees to the University of Melbourne.
Under the exchange fee structure, the fees will appear on your statements and invoices as “placeholder subjects” with subject codes starting with EXCH. These act as a placeholder for the subjects you enrol in at your host institution.

If you’re coming to the University of Melbourne on exchange, you won’t pay tuition fees to Melbourne.
Your fees are covered by the agreement we have in place with your home institution.
-
If you are coming to the University of Melbourne on a study abroad program you will pay a set fee per semester, which allows you to enrol in three or four subjects. Study abroad fees are charged at the published rate for that semester and are charged for each semester you are enrolled.
Fees must be paid before the commencement of each semester of study. Semester 1 covers the period January to June. Semester 2 runs from July to December.
View the Study Abroad fees for more information.
Study abroad research students
Students who have an agreement with an academic at the University of Melbourne for them to come and complete some research towards their home degree as a study abroad student currently have tuition fees waived.
Uni Ready Enabling Program
Students enrolled in a FEE-FREE Uni Ready Commonwealth supported place are not required to pay any student contribution amount or tuition fees for their subject enrolments.
