How timetabling works
- Most subjects are taught using a combination of class types that you attend regularly (eg weekly lectures and tutorials).
- Each class has a limited number of places. There are usually repeat classes at different times so all enrolled students get a place and to provide flexibility to fit around other classes.
- Your class timetable is system generated by MyTimetable, but you get to say which class times you prefer and a chance to swap classes.
- There are five MyTimetable study periods. Check the timetable dates and the intensive subjects which fall under each period.
MyTimetable periods runs sequentially as follows
- Preference entry period
-
- In this period you'll enter your class preferences for your enrolled subjects by numbering the class times in order of which you'd most like to attend.
- MyTimetable generates timetables
-
- Once preference entry has closed, MyTimetable will allocate classes to everyone who entered preferences.
- Subjects will be unavailable in MyTimetable while timetables are being generated.
- Review and adjust period
-
- When the period opens you'll find out which classes you've been allocated to.
- You may not get your preferred class times but you can swap classes if needed.
- There may be issues you need to resolve such as clashing classes.
- If you didn't enter preferences, you'll be able to select classes in this period. Class places may be limited.
- Study period (classes start)
-
- You'll attend your classes.
- Waitlists for full classes will close and you will need to attend the classes you are allocated to.
- If you have any unallocated classes, MyTimetable will assign you to a class.
- The review and adjust period will remain open for a short period in case you need to make any final changes to your classes in MyTimetable.
- Once your timetable is finalised, you attend the same class time for the study period.
- Timetable period closes
-
- Once the review and adjust period has closed, you'll only be able to view your classes in MyTimetable.
- If you need to make late changes, you will need to request timetabling assistance.
Please note: Timetable dates may differ for Faculty of Education subjects.
Yearly timetable
Each November, the timetable for the year ahead is published via the Handbook and MyTimetable.
- The 2025 timetable is now published.
- Once published, the timetable will continue to be finalised for some subjects.
- If you have November and December classes, you can still access the 2024 timetable in MyTimetable until the end of your study period.
- You can view your subject timetable via TE Viewer. Read the user guide here and watch the video below.
